Service Dog Memorial at Cy-Champ Park

Houston, TX

Axis Builders and MURR Incorporated collaborated for a new construction consisting of a 3,200 square foot plaza and a 6,300 square foot walkway and landscape for this public construction project.  The $300,000 project included a concrete and paver plaza with granite panels, bronze statuary, cast in place lighting, perimeter railing, landscape, and irrigation as well as walkways.

The memorial features two bronze statues of service dogs, Eli and Bretagne from Texas.  The memorial honors all the K-9’s that have and currently serve.  Bretagne was the last living search and rescue canine that served in the aftermath of 9/11.  Eli is a military working dog and he is positioned so he can see the name of the adjacent Fallen Warriors Memorial of his owner, Pfc. Colton Rusk, who died in Afghanistan.
