Axis Builders and MURR Incorporated collaborated on a new construction consisting of a 3,200 square-foot plaza and a 6,300 square-foot walkway and landscape for a service dog memorial project. The $300,000 project included a concrete and paver plaza with granite panels, bronze statuary, cast-in-place lighting, perimeter railing, landscape, and irrigation, as well as walkways.
The service dog memorial features two bronze statues of Eli and Bretagne from Texas. It honors all the K-9s that have and currently serve. Bretagne was the last living search-and-rescue canine to serve in the aftermath of 9/11. Eli is a military working dog, and he is positioned so he can see the name of the adjacent Fallen Warriors Memorial of his owner, Pfc. Colton Rusk, who died in Afghanistan.
